Emma Amos
Emma Amos, born in 1937, was a versatile artist specializing in painting, printmaking, and weaving. Her first major exhibition took place in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1960. Later, she worked as a designer and weaver for a prominent textile company under Dorothy Liebes. In 1964, Emma began her master’s program in art education at New York University and eventually joined “Spiral,” a local group of black artists. A significant portion of her work has been displayed in prestigious institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Wadsworth Atheneum. Amos explores issues of gender, race and the Western art canon in her work.
